  • HUUB Aegis II 3:5 Swimming & Triathlon Wetsuit

    Features:

    • Japanese flexible rubber
    • Break away zipper
    • Low line neck
    • Speed cut ankles
    • Exclusive 3:5 buoyancy for optimum body position
    • Strategically placed high buoyancy panels to lift legs and hips
    • Extra stretch panels located in high reach zones
    • Optimized materials modulus for comfort and performance

It was the goal of the team to create a suit that gives a true HUUB experience at a price that is accessible. We have improved the first Aegis in comfort, speed and usability. The Aegis has earned it's place in the line of HUUB products.

A suit offering full smoothskin and 3:5 ratio buoyancy. Japanese smoothskin materials designed for low drag co-efficiency.

Unrivalled 3mm neoprene for correct buoyancy level and all overbody flexibility. High stretch lining combined with thinner and more flexible outer smooth skin.

Neoprene flexibility, thickness and stretch combination unmatched in the industry.

Multi-panel shoulders and chest designed to allow neoprene grain stretch that conforms to body shape and stretch.

Speed cut ankle for easy release in transition.

Large velcro contact area for neck comfort and adjustment.

Break-away Zipper for the fastest transition.

We know we have the most comfortable neck in the wetsuit industry. We don't fold and stitch, we refuse to create a tourniquet of rubber to restrict breathing and flexibility... we stood alone and we will stand by this simple and effective design.

    What we think

The HUUB Aegis II is a classy looking suit with understated and subtle styling but is still obviously a HUUB and that name alone carries a certain amount of expectation and more than a little excitement when un-boxing!

Out of the box the suit has a fairly robust feel with quite thick feeling neoprene all over and particulary around the upper legs and hips where extra neoprene adds to the buoyancy in this vital area. This extra thickness of neoprene should keep the hips high in the water and promote a good body position.

    Getting it on

I am 6'2" and weigh 94kgs so in the middle of the XL height range for this suit and near the top of the weight range so it is a tight fit but being methodical and patient and using plastic bags on feet and arms meant it wasn't too much of a chore. The zip is a Breakaway type allowing for faster transition but this can be a bit of a pain when getting the suit on single handed so on the second attemp at getting the suit on I made sure the zip was zipped up about an inch and I could then complete the process on my own. Once the zip is up the large velcro flap makes a really slick looking neck line and allows the zip leash to be tucked in to an easy access position for yanking up at transition.

    Getting it off

Couldn't be simpler, yank the zip leash up and over the shoulder and the back of the suit just peels open and then the stretch lining allows for the suit to easily release from the arms and over the hands and then the speed cut ankle gets the feet out quickly putting this amongst the easist of suits I have ever removed in a hurry.

    In the water

It's not Yamamoto but you would be hard pressed to tell. The suit really comes into it's own once you hit the water, the flexibility and stretch in the neoprene around the shoulders allows for full motion and no extra fatigue from fighting against less stretchy materials. The buoyancy distribution was spot on for me, although I am a good kicker in the pool I tend to get a bit lazy on longer sea swims and just let the legs do a bit when they feel like it or when I want to put a bit of a sprint on.

HUUB go on a bit about the amount of product testing and science that goes in to making the fastest and most hydrodynamic suits on the market and the way the neoprene is cut to align the grains and put the stretch in all the right places, you can take it all with a pinch of salt but in the water you can quickly tell that however they do it they are doing it right, this thing is fast and every stroke feels like you are hitting the sweet spots, the rotation and good extension for the entry, catch and early vertical forearm and then accelerating through the pull and into the recovery. It feels pretty close to being in the pool with no noticable restriction on keeping a high elbow that some other suits are prone to.

Adding to the comfort is the neck, HUUB boast it's the most comfortable neck in the wetsuit industry and it is the most comfortable I have used. We also get great feedback on this from customers that are new to swimming wetsuits when they try the suit on in the shop, many suits seem quite constricting to those that are not familiar with them but this one feels as light as a feather.

    In Summary

I still class this an entry level suit but an entry level Triathlon Wetsuit rather than an entry level Swimming Wetsuit due to the Breakaway Zip and Easy release ankles that make it super fast through transition. It has many features filtered down from it's pricier siblings and ultimately it's a HUUB, I would buy one.
