What is SwimRun ? To sum it up, you could call it 'Extreme Island Hopping...'. A relatively new sport but rapidly growing in popularity, SwimRun has its roots in Sweden and what began as a drunken bet among friends is now the fastest growing endurance sport in the UK. The idea is to Swim a little, Run a lot, vice versa and any combination of, inter island, across land and sea, coastal or inshore. SwimRun events are often SwimRun as a team, usually pairs, and are seen as offering a new kind of endurance challenge not just to triathletes but any keen swimmers or keen runners.
Although not necessarily just for athletes a SwimRun race will appeal to anyone with the determination, a sense of adventure and the ability to recognise and combine the strengths and weaknesses of competing as a team - starting together and finishing together. Your SwimRun equipment may vary from event to event/organiser to organiser but usually you are required to have a First Aid kit with you in a waterproof pouch, compass and/or watch, whistle, hi-vis swimming cap, timing chip strap and a tether. You can also use a small floation aid to help combat the weight of your running shoes.
