The Scott Supertrac RC Shoe is the ultimate, technical mountain racing shoe.

The introduction of a unique outsole offering multi-directional traction adds confidence when the trail twists and turns meaning no loss of traction when you need it most. A light weight supportive upper completes this race specific product for the harshest of terrains.

When Scott focused on the specifics of mountain running and skyrunning versus traditional trail running when developing the supertrac rc, gaining athlete feedback and conducting field studies - all results revealed a need for multi directional traction. the Scott Supertac rc was born.

    Radial Lug Design

With a bite face for traction and an outer face that escapes muds the lugs are able to rotate through the surface while offering unparalled traction in a 360 degree sphere resulting in a technical running shoe that provides a solid foot hold as you twist and turn along the most technical of single track and mountain ridges.

    What the runners say

We lent a pair to a local elite trail and distance runner David William J, this is what he had to say :-

If I decided to buy a car the only thing that I would really be interested in is something that went from A to B with enough boot space for shopping and with an economic quality that would help leave enough fuel in the tank to get me home.

Needless to say that what good is technical jargon and fancy looks if it isn't capable of those necessities... So I'm going to get the technical specifications out of the way first.

    • 5mm drop
    • Forefoot cushioning height:17.5mm
    • Heel cushioning height:22.5mm
    • Weight:270g
    • Outsole:360 degree traction made in wet rubber compound.
    • EVA cushioning
    • Reinforced toecap

So now that's all out of the way I can move on as swift as these shoes moved me.
Having never worn a pair of SCOTT shoes before I never had any expectations or anything in my mind that they would live up to but was somewhat concerned with the fact they were a half size bigger than my standard shoe size (UK9) making these a 9.5. They seemed to fit like magic however with enough space in the toe box for plenty of movement without any shift from the heel lifting out of the shoe (A problem I've experienced with other brands and most notabley one that rolled my ankle and caused a permanently significant issue for me).

Stability is a must for me. A to B without a break down. Within the first 3 miles after lacing up for the first time I started to feel they had become a part of me and that these RCs had been my weapon of choice since day 1. Quite literally not much breaking in required for me.

I Had to adjust my running somewhat to begin with on the first 3 miles of road as I had no idea what to expect from these being an over pronator. As soon as I was off the road they gave me the confidence to test at speed with hills, dunes and steps on the coast before back on the road.

They surprisingly help pull you up inclines with less effort than my previously preferred trail shoe. Lots of spring under the forefoot so it's almost effortless in comparison.

I found them extremely breathable but not exactly waterproof although they don't claim to be. Having said that the water drains almost instantly and the fit from the upper mesh and tongue means no debris from the trail gets in and forces a stop to empty them.
They hold up on mud exceptionally well and the mud falls right out from the bottom of the outsole right away. No having to kick a rock to break compacted mud off.
On the road I can only liken these to walking across a nightclub floor. Very sticky and grippy and also a tad heavy on the tarmac. I wouldn't be looking at running a route with long sections of road and would recommend a shoe change on ultras with a fair whack of the concrete stuff.

It pushes the boundaries of what a shoe should be capable of in terms of getting over a technical trail section without any difficulties. However one minor snag is that sharp loose rock and stones will possibly be punishing at times as once they end up between the chevrons of the outsole you will feel it. But this means you're closer to the trail which is something that may attract those that wish to step away from the maximilist shoe and be at one a bit more with the terrain.

At first glance these shoes are a fine pretty sight indeed. I mean just look at them!! They really do look like the Maserati of skyrunning shoes!
The tounge is short and not gusseted but you can't feel that in any way and being as though I heel lock shoes sometimes I can feel the rub on the upper foot.
Another minor problem I found was that the laces were unnecessarily long. I heel locked and double tied and they were still to long for me but I forgot about that once I was out there.
Needless to say if this was a car then it would most certainly be personally fit for purpose for me.

A to B with 15 and a half miles on the clock with plenty of room. Sure there are some minor issues with the ride but even in the most plush of cars you'll still most certainly feel a bump or two in the road. Once on general sale I will be stocking up nicely.

"I would like to thank the Triathlon Store for giving me the amazing opportunity to test drive the new SCOTT Supertrac RC shoes with 360 degree traction before the general release for sales at the store in just a few weeks time. After submitting my personal review I would like to reiterate that these are really a trail running experience everyone should get on, with an effortless glide over mud, hills and technical folly! If you want to get closer to the trail then these are perfect. I'm very much looking forward to muddying these up again (photo taken pre run). Thank you once again for being truly brilliant and affording me the chance to gain some more confidence in my own abilities!"

Scott

Exciting news from Scott. The fabulous Brownlee brothers will be riding Scott Foil and Scott Plasma bikes from now untill 2020.

The Scott story began in the Sun Valley, Idaho by top class ski racer and innovative thinker Ed Scott. He designed and developed the first tapered aluminium ski pole, rendering bamboo and steel poles defunct at the highest level of competition. The company then moved into different markets with motocross and cycling emerging as new targets for the business. Greg Lemond stunned the cycling world when he used the first ever production aero bar, which was made by Scott in his 1989 Tour de France win.

Innovation and technology remain at the forefront of Scott’s design ethos in all their products. Moving forward to the present day Scott produce; bikes, components, shoes, helmets, clothing and much more, all with the same meticulous detail to performance as when Ed Scott developed his ski poles in 1958. As a result it is no surprise Scott bikes and riders have been at the forefront of international cycle sport. Nino Schurter and Jenny Rissveds stormed to victory in the XC MTB discipline at the Rio Olympics. The pair who ride for the Scott Odlo MTB Racing Team were riding the latest evolution of the Scott Spark. In road racing the Scott Foil and Addict have become the bikes to watch whether climbing up mountains in the Alps or blasting along the cobbles in the Arenburg forest. Adam Yates and his Orica–BikeExchange team mates have been producing consistently top results using Scott products.
