Scott’s Integrated moulding process has been developed so that frame tubes and joints can be created in a single step. Scott bicycle frames and components go through rigorous third party analysis at EFBe, who are a leading laboratory in the field of product testing for safety and reliability. EFBe carry out repeated fatigue tests of specific forces to match the stresses when the bike is in use. A frame must pass through 100,000 cycles in each test without showing any signs of weakness for it to pass. No amount of extreme use by a human can match the lab tests workload carried out on the frame.

Scott engineers design and virtually test their frames before any hard manufacturing begins. Once a design concept has been approved, a 3D model is created where computational fluid dynamics, finite element analysis and Scott’s own in house software can be used to develop the frame. Every last detail can be assessed by these advanced tools including frame weight, stiffness rating, aerodynamic performance, carbon fibre ply layup and spring rates within the frame.
The virtual design process is a key part in the development of the frame but to take things closer to production a mold needs to be produced. Scott engineers create the initial batch of prototype frames which are then sent away to be tested in the lab. The frames can go through many cycles of carbon layup refinement before all specific parameters are met.
Once the frames have passed the demanding series of tests set by the lab, a pilot batch of frames is produced to ensure that all tooling and manufacturing processes are ready for mass production. After lab testing these frames they are then handed over to Scott’s professional teams and riders to be pushed to the limit in the real world, providing critical feedback for the Scott engineering team.FRAME & FORKS

Ready to ride
To enable our bikes to be shipped complete we turn the handlebar stem to a 90 degree angle. To turn the bar straight simply loosen the bolts on the side of the stem clamp using the provided multi tool, then turn the handlebars so that the stem is in line with the front wheel and tighten the bolts evenly. The next and final step is to install the pedals by matching them up to either the left or right crank arm and tightening them up with the pedal spanner. That’s it your bike is ready to go!
Each bike comes with full instructions and a complimentary multi tool and pedal spanner to assist you in its completion.

Exciting news from Scott. The fabulous Brownlee brothers will be riding Scott Foil and Scott Plasma bikes from now untill 2020.
The Scott story began in the Sun Valley, Idaho by top class ski racer and innovative thinker Ed Scott. He designed and developed the first tapered aluminium ski pole, rendering bamboo and steel poles defunct at the highest level of competition. The company then moved into different markets with motocross and cycling emerging as new targets for the business. Greg Lemond stunned the cycling world when he used the first ever production aero bar, which was made by Scott in his 1989 Tour de France win.
Innovation and technology remain at the forefront of Scott’s design ethos in all their products. Moving forward to the present day Scott produce; bikes, components, shoes, helmets, clothing and much more, all with the same meticulous detail to performance as when Ed Scott developed his ski poles in 1958. As a result it is no surprise Scott bikes and riders have been at the forefront of international cycle sport. Nino Schurter and Jenny Rissveds stormed to victory in the XC MTB discipline at the Rio Olympics. The pair who ride for the Scott Odlo MTB Racing Team were riding the latest evolution of the Scott Spark. In road racing the Scott Foil and Addict have become the bikes to watch whether climbing up mountains in the Alps or blasting along the cobbles in the Arenburg forest. Adam Yates and his Orica–BikeExchange team mates have been producing consistently top results using Scott products.
The anatomy of a Hardtail Mountain Bike.
Mountain bikes don’t tend to have gearing for high speeds like road bikes because they are designed for off road but they are blessed with a greater range of low gears for climbing steep off road gradients.
Single chain ring options are now becoming available on bikes which saves weight and creates a simplified system by removing the front derailleur. Bikes with a single front ring are fitted with an extremely wide range cassette so that gearing is not compromised with the loss of the chain ring.
Brake options for modern mountain bikes are either V-brakes or disc brakes, with disc brakes being the most commonplace. V – Brakes offer good stopping power but loose some of their bite in wet and gritty conditions. Disc brakes come in cable and hydraulic forms with hydraulic models leading the way in terms of all round performance.
What are they and what makes them so good at what they do?
Hardtail mountain bikes are designed for rough off road trails where roots, rocks, steep gradients and mud are commonplace. Features include;
Frame and forks
Frames need to be made strong enough to withstand extreme forces and have frame geometry to allow the rider to easily move their position around the bike to negotiate obstacles and climb steep gradients.
Hardtail mountain bike frames have long been the choice of cross country racers where lightweight and stiff frames are of upmost priority. Hardtail frames are fine for most off road terrain including rocky downhills.
The front suspension fork soaks up the lumps and bumps of the trail enabling the rider to be in greater control of the bike and resist fatigue.
Wheels and tyres
Wheels need to be very strong and have the ability to stand up to anything the woods or mountain can throw at them. Mountain bike wheels come in three sizes 26”, “27.5” and “29”. Larger wheels roll over trail objects better than smaller wheels and are more stable but are slightly heavier and don’t accelerate as well as a smaller wheel. 29” wheels tend to be favoured by taller riders.
Many wheels and tyres have the ability to be run tubeless which is where the tube is removed and sealant is installed instead. The great benefit of this is that they can then be run at much lower pressures enabling higher levels of grip, more comfort and control without the fear of pinch puncturing. Tyres in mountain biking contain a large volume of air to give good grip in muddy conditions and also to soak up bumps from the trail.
