The Addict Gravel 20 Disc is designed to tackle more than just roads, this is a bike for adventures. The lightweight HMF Carbon fibre frame with gravel bike geometry combined with Shimano hydraulic disc brakes and 35mm Schwalbe tyres blend to create a bike which laps up terrain which your road bike could never cope with.

Frame & Forks – The Scott Addict Gravel 20 is a bike for when you want to tackle more than just smooth tarmac. The Addict irons out the roughest of roads whilst retaining the essence of a road bike.
Specific gravel bike geometry puts the rider in a comfortable and balanced position on any rough gravel track or road.
Seatstays directly connected to the top tube, have the benefit of creating comfort characteristics within the frame. The Addict CX features a tapered head tube which enables exceptional torsional stiffness. This allows the front end to deliver precise and balanced handling in every turn.
Both front and rear wheels are secured using bolt thru axles, which increase the overall stiffness of the bike whilst remaining extremely easy to use.
Drivetrain – Shimano’s 11 speed componentry delivers super slick shifting and a fantastic range of gears. The 11-32 cassette and 50 x 34 tooth chainrings give you a range of gears whether you are on fast roads or climbing steep ascents.
Brakes – The Addict Gravel 20 Disc is equipped with Shimano hydraulic disc brakes which deliver superb control and modulation in the most adverse of conditions.
Wheels and Tyres– Syncros Tubeless compatible rims enable tyres to be run at lower pressures than with a conventional tubed set up should the rider so wish. The Addict Gravel 20 Disc comes fitted with 35mm wide tubeless easy Schwalbe G-One folding tyres which feature a finely knobbled tread, perfect for giving grip on rough terrain but also fast on the road.
Finishing Kit – Syncros components fitted to the Addict 20 complement the rest of the bike perfectly, matching the dynamic look of the bike through their shape and colour schemes. Scott’s Integrated moulding process has been developed so that frame tubes and joints can be created in a single step. The process gives engineers the freedom to introduce more optimized structures and to fully control carbon layup and performance. Scott bicycle frames and components go through rigorous third party analysis at EFBe, who are a leading laboratory in the field of product testing for safety and reliability. EFBe carry out repeated fatigue tests of specific forces to match the stresses when the bike is in use. A frame must pass through 100,000 cycles in each test without showing any signs of weakness for it to pass. No amount of extreme use by a human can match the lab tests workload carried out on the frame.

Scott engineers design and virtually test their frames before any hard manufacturing begins. Once a design concept has been approved, a 3D model is created where computational fluid dynamics, finite element analysis and Scott’s own in house software can be used to develop the frame. Every last detail can be assessed by these advanced tools including frame weight, stiffness rating, aerodynamic performance, carbon fibre ply layup and spring rates within the frame.
The virtual design process is a key part in the development of the frame but to take things closer to production a mold needs to be produced. Scott engineers create the initial batch of prototype frames which are then sent away to be tested in the lab. The frames can go through many cycles of carbon layup refinement before all specific parameters are met.
Once the frames have passed the demanding series of tests set by the lab, a pilot batch of frames is produced to ensure that all tooling and manufacturing processes are ready for mass production. After lab testing these frames they are then handed over to Scott’s professional teams and riders to be pushed to the limit in the real world, providing critical feedback for the Scott engineering team.FRAME & FORKS

The Scott story began in the Sun Valley, Idaho by top class ski racer and innovative thinker Ed Scott. He designed and developed the first tapered aluminium ski pole, rendering bamboo and steel poles defunct at the highest level of competition. The company then moved into different markets with motocross and cycling emerging as new targets for the business. Greg Lemond stunned the cycling world when he used the first ever production aero bar, which was made by Scott in his 1989 Tour de France win. Innovation and technology remain at the forefront of Scott’s design ethos in all their products. Moving forward to the present day Scott produce; bikes, components, shoes, helmets, clothing and much more, all with the same meticulous detail to performance as when Ed Scott developed his ski poles in 1958. The pair who ride for the Scott Odlo MTB Racing Team were riding the latest evolution of the Scott Spark. In road racing the Scott Foil and Addict have become the bikes to watch whether climbing up mountains in the Alps or blasting along the cobbles in the Arenburg forest. Adam Yates and his Orica–BikeExchange team mates have been producing consistently top results using Scott products. The latest big signings for Scott are the Browlee brothers Jonny and Alister who need no introduction in the world of triathlon. The brothers who have and continue to dominate the discipline will be opening a new chapter with the brand utilising Scott’s attention to detail and no shortcuts approach to creating the best equipment on the planet.
The anatomy of a Gravel Bike.
Wheels and tyres
High volume tyres are preferred on gravel bikes due to their superior vibration dampening and grip to narrow tyres. Tyres generally start at 28mm and go up to 40mm plus. Tubeless tyres are a popular choice on gravel bikes due to their reliability and ability to be run without the risk of snake bite punctures.
Gearing on gravel bikes is usually wide ranging to cope with high speeds but also steep ascents. The front chain ring set up is usually “compact” with 50 x 34 toothed rings allowing the rider to be able to push on at high speeds, at the rear of the bike the cassette is often wide ranging with many similarities to mountain bike cassettes. Single chain ring options are filtering in to the gravel bike scene which create a lightweight no fuss option.
The vast majority of gravel bikes come fitted with disc brakes which deliver superb stopping power, control and feel. Disc brakes are superb in all conditions including hot, cold and wet weather.

Gravel bikes are the latest type of bike to emerge on the cycling scene, born out of America’s gravel road racing circuit these bikes blend many aspects of cyclo-cross and road bikes creating a drop handlebar bike optimised for rough roads and gravel tracks. Features of gravel bikes include;

These bikes are designed for long distances on bumpy terrain with the potential to cause high levels of fatigue to the rider. To combat the shake rattle and roll frames often incorporate a taller head tube and vibration nullifying technology to the frame and forks.
