Niterider Sentinal 150 review by Martin from the Triathlon Store Team.

I had been meaning to get myself a new light for a while as I take road safety very seriously having been involved in an accident recently on the road and due to the sheer volume of traffic out there being visible is a high priority. I had a few requirements which I wanted the light to cover such as being bright enough to be seen in daylight and also USB rechargeable. I looked closer into the Niterider Sentinal 150 and found that it had an added feature which projects lasers onto the road giving the rider a zone in which they ride. I decided that this was the light for me as it seemed to give unparalleled visibility to other road users.

The light is very easy and fast to charge with a simple rubber flap which pulls down to expose the charging port, the light holds a dim red light when it is charging and then turns to blue once it is fully charged. Once this rubber flap is removed the internals of the light do seem to be quite exposed but I have not had any issues using the light in the wet and salty environment of West Cornwall and all Niterider products are covered by their lifetime warranty so the company must be confident that this is not an issue.

Attaching the Sentinal 150 to the bike is simple with a rubber strap which can be fitted in seconds on a seatpost which is round or aero shaped giving a secure fit with no rattling. The light has a great aray of modes from flashing to constant plus group ride mode to keep you friends from going bleary eyed! I usually have the light on group ride mode with the lasers flashing gives the rider great visibility to other road users when in the bunch without being too off-putting. Visibility from the side is also good, an important feature for when passing side roads. An additional benefit of laser lines is that on poor visibility evenings it can be hard for car drivers to see where the rider is on the road with just a single glowing light but having a zone essentially marked on the road this is not an issue and the driver should know exactly where you are.

Overall I am very impressed with this light, I feel that rear lights are often overlooked in the cyclists list of priorities but I feel that this is worth its £50 price tag giving an all-round very high quality light which will last.

NiteRider was created in California by outdoor enthusiast Tom Carrol who noticed that the surf at night was far superior than during the day. Tom needed to find a way of being able to ride the waves at night, but at the time no lighting options available were up to the job. This situation was the catalyst for the creation of NiteRider lights.
NiteRider lights were the first company to develop high powered lights for use in mountain biking. The company continues to lead the way in light technology with an unparalleled list of industry firsts within the marketplace. The company has recently celebrated its 25 year anniversary and Tom is still at the forefront of the business putting customers requirements into the design process. The business started at the home kitchen table but the same personal care and attention is still present in the way the business operates to this day.
